New to BrainPOP

BrainPOP Product Release Notes: April 2022

May 17, 2022 by Michelle Strom

What's new?

At BrainPOP, we pride ourselves on ensuring that the needs of teachers guide our products, features, and enhancements. This month we’re highlighting what’s new in BrainPOP Science and BrainPOP ELL!

What’s new in BrainPOP Science?

We’re hard at work addressing the needs of middle school science teachers. Our new standards-aligned Mini-assessments and Checkpoints offer a variety of access points to assess students’ progress throughout their learning experience. We’ve also added new investigations!

1. New Feature: Mini-assessments

Short formative assessments provide insights about student progress, and offer additional opportunities to check in with and support students before the end of a unit.

2. New Feature: Checkpoints

Brief checkpoints across different stages of each investigation are a great way for students to demonstrate their growing scientific skills. Checkpoints also allow teachers to gauge students’ understanding using various question types.

3. Investigations

We continue to publish new investigations every week. Here are the latest additions:

  • Work, Energy, and Forces
  • Energy in Chemical Reactions
  • Average Kinetic Energy
  • Ocean’s Impact on Weather
  • Thermal Energy
  • Global Climate Change
  • Impact of Biodiversity on Resources
  • Orbital Motion
  • Plate Boundaries
  • Formation of Minerals
  • Ecosystem Disruptions
  • Decomposers
  • Gravitational Forces
  • Matter and Energy in Ecosystems

What’s new in BrainPOP ELL?

1. Enhanced Student Homepage

We enhanced the student-facing homepage to make it easier for students to access, engage with, and complete assignments. The dynamic student view now reflects the status of their placement test and current assignments. Learn more in our Help Center.

What else is new?

1. Additions to the New Pause Points Feature

Microsoft Immersive Reader (MIR) is now enabled inside Pause Points to support students’ reading needs. You can access Pause Points in over 100 BrainPOP movies across the curriculum. Log in to BrainPOP, and type “Pause Points” in the search bar to see the growing list.

2. Custom Alignments for Your District Curriculum

Districts with a BrainPOP subscription can now purchase customized in-product alignments based on their curriculum, state standards, and grade-level needs. These will appear directly in your teacher dashboard.
