Camp BrainPOP: Fantastic Fireworks
What’s all the noise about fireworks? Just in time for July Fourth, this week at Camp BrainPOP your kids will learn what fireworks are made of and how they work—from a safe distance, of course! Then, in advance of your city’s fireworks display, your kids can let their creative sparks fly by designing a display of their own.
(Outside of the U.S.? No problem! This artistic activity can be performed by campers all over the world.)
We always recommend using active viewing strategies, like conversation starters, when watching BrainPOP movies with your kids.
Before the movie, ask: Where did you last see fireworks? What were they like? What do you want to know about fireworks?
During the movie, ask: Why do sparklers and traditional fireworks combust differently? What do you think firework designers studied in school? How can fireworks be dangerous?
Design Your Display
After the movie, it’s time to for your kids to envision their own display. Encourage them to design what they’d like to see in a fireworks display using their favorite media: sketch, paint, draw, collage, or even digital design!
For older kids, refer back to the movie to see which ingredients make up each color of their display. Then, ask them to plan a mock shopping list for the ingredients needed to create their display.
